My love of all
things photographic began at the tender age of 5 when I managed to drop
my father's new Canon AE-1, breaking off the winding knob. After it
was repaired I went on to use it, and some other cameras, to make photographs
for the next 22 years.
In addition to my interest in the practice of photography, I also spend
lots of time wondering about the nature of photography itself. I recently
completed a doctorate in philosophy in which I focused on the study
of aesthetics. My dissertation used photography as a central example
in exploring the relationship between the experience of art and the
rest of life.
I live and work in Chicago along with Allison, my wife, Eleanor,
my daughter and a couple of felines. I love to travel in pursuit of both
photography and ultramarathons, my other hobby.
photoblog
Unlike many other photoblogs, I don't provide comments
on my images, and I don't have a place to leave them. I interpret the
concept of a photoblog to be primarily visual. I spend lots of time
in the world of language every day, and photoblogs represent a respite
from that for me.
Thanks for taking the time to look around, and I hope you enjoy the
images.
Best,
